The valentine's Day celebration has become a world wide phenomenum that has simply alotted the 14 february of every year to this celebration.From research the actual celebartion of the day as been acredited to two reasons.
1. The celebration of Valentine dy dates back to the third or fourth century bc,when the Parentalia and Faralia festival of Purification was celebrated this was done in the Ancient Rome between the 13 and the 18 th of every month of February, a period of fertility festival for young men and animals were often sacrificed for fertility rituals.During this celebration young males and females were paired together for a period of on year and this often provide sexual gratification which MAY lead to marriage.
2.Lupercalia was also another source of the Valentine's day celebration, this celebration was also celebrated during the month of February by herdmen to give thanks to a god called Lupercus, whom they belive was responsible for protecting their Herds from the ravenous Wolves who roam outside Rome where Shepherd kept their flocks.this festival was so important that Mark Anthony who was the master of the Luperci College of Priests chose the Lupercalia Festival of the 44 B.C as the real time of crowning Julius Ceasar.
3.When Christianity came to Rome in the fifth A.D, in other to stop and abolish this Pagan practice by creating its own holiday around this period and a Saint who has devoted his life to Love was chosen. In 496 A.D the Pope of that period Gelasius outlawed the Lupercalia festival and in other to give it a christian undertone,a Saint Called Valentine was chosen because of his devotion to love Hence,Saint Valentine's day.
With the brief history of the Valentine's Day celebration,one will begin to wonder ,where this celebration is leading the youth of today to,going around the world you will come to realise that love in the true meaning of the world is not being celebrated,but sex has replaced it.You will be surprised at the numbers of young female that will loose their Virginity today all in the name of celebrating Saint Valentine's day, some will go home with their hearts broken, while some will even go home with alot of different sexual transmitted diseases all in the name of celebrating valentine. i wonder where we are heading to in this generation.If indeed the youths are the leaders of tomorrow,then what is happening to our tomorrow.
The celebration of this festival will also lead to some broken homes and relationships where men will want to go out to explore the danger zone.Sex has taken over the world we really need to be very careful or else there may be no tomorrow for some.
